“Chapter 7: Complication.”

"Niisan?"

"Al, go back to sleep."

"You will catch a cold outside." Alfonse reminded his brother, who was sitting on the steps of the house.

"Al, it's July." he commented angrily.

"It's two in the morning..." The little brother said ignoring his brother’s previous comment.

"That is why you should go back to sleep!"

"But Niisan..."

"Ask no more! Go SLEEP!" Edward ordered.

But Alfonse wasn't a soldier you can order. He stepped out from the house and silently set down next to his brother to watch the stars.
They set there for a while with their gaze up on the starry dark sky.

"Once, I dreamed I was standing on the moon and I was looking down at the earth." Alfonse said softly.

Edward turned to him. "...how was it?"

Alfonse closed his eyes as he answered with a smile. "Beautiful."

"And did you see Winry waving at you?" Ed grinned.

"Niisan!" a blush appeared on the smaller brother.

"Just joking." he turned back to the sky.

They set there looking at the stars without a word. They could do that for hours.

"Al..."

"Yes?" The younger one looked at his big brother. Edward's hair was on loose, his blond locks hiding his eyes.

"Am I... do I... err...?" He obviously couldn't find the word he needed. "What did I do wrong?"

"Niisan. You didn't do anything wrong." the younger Elric smiled.

"Than why am I ... Why cannot I... ?"

"Aww... Come here." Alfonse hugged him and Edward let him do so. "You feel bad but you shouldn't. I know it must be hard." He looked back up at the stars. "You know, in this huge word there is one from everything. Each and everything is individual and unique. There are no two rocks which look the same. No two leafs that fall the same way. No two stars that has the same shine."

"It's just not fair."

"No." Al pulled back and lifted Edward's head so he can look into his eyes. "...there maybe two Edward Elric around now, but I only have one brother."

"He is also your brother..."

"No Niisan. He has his own Al, who I am sure, I can never be. I am, what I am. I cannot be somebody else. And I don't want to be anybody else either." Then he slowly and lovingly said: "And you shouldn't want to be anybody else either...." He smiled at him and continued. "Because you are perfect the way you are, Niisan."

Edward blinked twice, and then finally smiled."...thanks, Al."

Roy kissed his wife before he left to work. It was still early, the children were sleeping. Roy opened his umbrella as he stepped out of the house. It was raining as usual. But this time much heavier that the day before. Roy’s house was outside of the wall. Actually nobody lived inside. People only went there to work.

Edward has left hours ago. He was in the library checking one book after the other. The librarian was the same as at home so when Ed greeted her on her name in the morning, she had to think the boy is usually around. Which was good if Edward didn't wanted to get suspicious. But reading all day without any communication to real people makes you go nuts after a time. The Full Metal felt he just has to leave the place before he looses his senses. He got outside and saw that the rain is still falling hard. At lest there were people around so he felt better. Two in uniform passed him as they were talking about food. That made Edward remembered that he didn't had breakfast yet! So Edward decided to hit the cafeteria and get something to bite.

He got the usually suspicious thing they dare to call breakfast, but if you're hungry everything tastes good. Okay, Edward had to admit the food in the Amestris was good. As he was chewing on something, he saw Armstrong walk in and getting himself a coffee. Sadly Armstrong felt that he was being watched so he spotted Edward fast. Edward looked away fast but Armstrong was already walking up to him with lil sparkles following him. Edward thought: 'Oh no. Damn.'

"Well, hello there! We have met before but we didn't have the chance to introduce ourselves." He smiled as always and raised a large palm. "Alex Louise Armstrong the Strong Alchemist!" He introduced himself with great proud.

"Um.. Edison Bradley. But please just call me Ed." they shook hands.

"So Ed, what is someone so young doing here in central at the middle of the summer?"

"Oh just things... hehe... reading and helping out the Flame Alchemist and the Light Alchemist with small things." he sweat dropped.

"You extremely look like Hohenheim's older son, do you know that?"

"Oh, yes, everybody says that." another sweat drop, this time a bigger one.

Edward's brain was working hard... 'How to get rid of Mr. Muscle?'

"Youngsters usually come here to become state Alchemist." The Strong Alchemist wondered off. "Oh I remember when I came here..." more shines popping up. "Being a State Alchemist is the best life you can imagine!”

“Yes, I heard about it.”

“Although…” Armstrong thought for a second “…it’s a dangerous job. Not as easy as you may think.” He turned back to the boy and talked in a low voice, him mustache hardly moving. “They say Morinsky is gone. ”

“Morinsky?” Edward asked, although he had no idea who Morinsky might be. “What happened?”

“Well, since last night nobody knows where he can be. His teammate, the Life Sewing Alchemist has no idea either.”

Edward froze for a moment hearing the familiar Alchemist name.

“Shou Tucker…?”

Armstrong blinked “Yes him. Do you know him as well?”

“Oh, err… no not really.  Just hear a lot about him.” Edward thought for a second if he wants to know the answer to the next question but he finally manage to ask it. “I heard he has a little daughter, how… is she?”

Armstrong sighed. “She’s really cute! Aww, you should have seen the little one coming to greet his papa on the train station after we got back from an outer cleaning mission.” Armstrong sparkled. “I hope to be a uncle soon too! Havoc and Catherine got married almost a year ago!”

“I think you should let them take their time.” Edward smiled a felt sorry for Havoc san.

“Ed, do you want to be a state Alchemist too?"

"No actually, I'm already a state..." 'oh I shouldn't have said that' "I must go. Back to study. You know how important that is, Mr. Armstrong." but as soon as Edward stood up was looking right at a chest wearing a blue uniform.

As he looked up slowly he saw the well known face of Maes Hughes. Armstrong stood up and saluted. Edward stepped back and saluted as well.

"I don't happen to remember you my young Alchemist." Hughes smiled innocently. "What was your name again?"

Edward didn't had a chance. "Mayor Edison Bradley, The Full Metal Alchemist, sir."

Hughes blinked then laughed a bit. "Oh yes! I remember! I'm sorry there are so many state Alchemists running around here." he laughed. "Go do your job, boy!" He petted Edward's back as the boy left.

But as he left the Führer ask his secretary who was right behind him all the time: "Do we really have a Full Metal Alchemist, my dear Shiezka?"

The secretary thought for a bit then she stated: "I don't remember any Full Metal Alchemist sir."

"And his name?"

"Edison Bradley... no, I'm positive I never seen this name written down anywhere."

Hughes took off his glasses and cleaned them with a hanky. "Armstrong, please keep an eye of this Edison. Figure out what is he doing here."

"Yes, sir!"

"Good, then let me get my usual coffee..." Maes smiled again.

“Al!” The tall blond shouted. “Al damn it, where are you? Mom wants us to help her out with the…” he stopped in his way to their room when he saw that door of his father’s workroom is slightly open. He stepped closer to check on it.

Father's work room was off limits for the boys. If Al went in, he will be in big trouble when Hohenheim comes home. Edward peeked in and indeed, there was Alfonse sitting in the middle of the room, busy running trough a book. Other books were all around him on the ground, as if he had looked over all of them by now.

"Aru?" The boy turned to look at his big brother standing at the now widely open door, quite shocked. "What... are you doing?"

Alfonse calmly got up the book still in his hand. "Reading." he blinked innocently at the boy with glasses.

"But..." for Edward, his father's word meant very much. If Hohenheim said the workbook if off limits, than Edward wouldn't even think, to go in. "...READING?! This is Father's room! How do you dare to..."

"Oh come'on, Edward..." Al sighed. "I cannot believe you are still the good little child who always does what their parents tell him to do."

"Put those books back to their place... if father sees this mess..."

Al ignored his brother’s worries. "Look what I found... this book says that the Isbal army attacked us ages ago because they needed a sample of the..."

"I don't care!" he grabbed the book away from his brother and put it down on the worktable, and then he pulled his little brother out of the room and slammed the door. "Come! Mother needs our help in the garden."

"Niisan, lemme go, that hurts!"

"You deserve it. You sneaked into fathers room which you know is taboo for us."

"Why?!" he freed his arm from his brother's hand.

"Because, father said so!" Edward shouted at his brother.

"And if father says the world is flat then the world suddenly turns flat?!" Al screamed back. "Brother you are pathetic sometimes." he passed the blond and hurried down the stairs out to the garden.

Edward stood there alone. His rebellious little brother was right... again. His little brother is always right. While he learned so many he still looses to Al. Edward took one more look on the door he just slammed, he thought for a second, then he continued his way down the stairs outside to the garden. 'Yes, I'm pathetic.' he thought.

Al was up on the cherry tree getting some cherries for his mom who was standing under the tree. "Watch out Alfonse... It's hard to bring the cherry out of your clothes!"

"Yes mom, I know!"

Edward walked up to her. "Here I am, where can I help?"

"Oh yes Edward, do you happen to remember where could that bucked be which was behind the house?" Trisha asked. "I cannot find it anywhere..."

"Oh... well... hehehe" Ed sweat dropped. "I transmuted it some days ago. Sorry Mom."

Trisha blinked some, then she gave a week smile. "Oh, okay, then I won't be looking for it."

"Edward catch!" Edward looked up and caught the bucked full of cherries in the last moment.

"Argh Al! Don't do that!" he said and his little brother got down from the tree.

"Edward," Trisha spoke up. "Will you try the State Alchemist exam this September?"

"Oh... well" Edward was still on the opinion that he should just give up the whole alchemy thing and go to university instead.

"Of course he will!" Alfonse cheered. "And he will pass!"

Edward gave the bucket of fruit to his mom. "I don't know, mother. I feel I still need to learn a lot until I can reach so high to pass the test." he sighed. "I'm uncertain."

"Is this the house of the Light Alchemist?" asked a man suddenly. The three turned to him. He was wearing a light yellow shirt with dark trousers and a long black jacket.

"Yes," Trisha answered. "But my husband is not at home right now. What can we do for you?"

The stranger took of his dark red sunglasses. "I need the help of Hohenheim of Light, miss."

Aww... Ed and Al's little talk at the beginning was kind'a sweet. ^_^
Yay! Nina's alive. ^_^ (I was holding my breath there. I had Tucker and her in my "What Could Have Been" fic, too... turned into a plot somehow, actually.) I wonder what Tucker does... Again, I wonder how he could be the sewing life alchemist when there's enough chimeras running around as it is...
Oh, I completely forgot Hughes was the Fuhrer. ^_^" I think I was holding my breath there, too, since Hughes was in charge of investigations in the other world... I wonder if he still has those skills here...
(eyebrow quirks) Sample of the what? I sense something important.
Hmm... it's so strange that Ed is the one who seems to love his dad... I mean, I can see that our Ed would have liked the guy if he hadn't ran off (partly because of the movie), but it's still odd to see it. Especially Al breaking the rules. Ed was always the one talking Al into doing things...
Hmm... I wonder who's there to visit. (mentioning yellow and "the Light Alchemist" sounds kind'a like Scar... plus I kind'a accidentally see something in a later chapter about Scar, but I didn't read to see what was said.)
